My top 8 tips for a flat Tummy this Summer!

Although here in sunny old England we have had blizzards, rain & snow we are almost into Spring season which means one thing!! SUMMER is around the corner! We need to start preparing now if we want to look good and feel good in our swimming trunks and bikinis! Here is my guide on how I have gained a nice flat stomach; remember, everything starts with your diet and you must stay strong to get results!

Start your day with a hot water and lemon! There isn’t a better way than to start your day with a hot water and lemon for a nice flat tummy, not only does it taste nice, it also acts as a blood sugar stabiliser that keeps your metabolism up and aids towards weight loss . Drinking hot lemon water first thing in the morning can stimulate the body’s natural cleansing and detoxifying processes.

Take probiotics, I tell all of my clients that they should take a high dose probiotic. They have worked for me and I wouldn’t be without them especially if I have a holiday coming up or want to shed a few pounds! The healthier your gut is the less bloating you will have it’s as simple as that. I recommend taking at high dose which contains Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum. (Please note: You should never take probiotics or any other supplements with hot drinks.)

Eat your greens! Again it’s all about your gut, we want everything to be moving in and out of your system so that nothing is causing any bloating or gas. Also as we know eating your Greens has loads of other health benefits such as weight loss and are packed full of vitamins and minerals.

Do not eat fruits with any other foods, the reason why is because fruit contains simple sugars that don’t require digestion and when you eat them with other foods, such as foods rich in fat, protein and starch. This means the fruit sugar will stay in the stomach for too long and ferment causing gas, bloating and maybe even cramps! Try to eat your fruit in-between meals but remember if you are trying to lose weight then try and cut out fruits all together.

Cut out sugar! Refined sugar/carbs like the kind you get from biscuits, white pasta, white rice, white bread are turned instantly into sugar (insulin) and are fuel for yeast. Yeast grows in your gut and causes lots of problems if you over do it.  Do you ever get yeast infections, athlete’s foot, itchy skin, mental fogginess, moody, irritable, and bloating after foods and crave sweets and junk food all the time? Yes, Then you might have an overgrowth of yeast in your body. Sugar feeds yeast and the yeast cells in your gut make you bloated and can cause all the above symptoms.  (Probiotics can help get rid of this) If you are serious about feeling great this summer then cut out all of these types of sugars as you will not get results otherwise!

Do not over eat! Learn when your tummy is full. Try having a smaller plate or bowl, then wait 5-10 mins and see if you are still hungry. If you are then have some more but most of the time you will see that you have had enough. A lot of the reason why people are overweight is because they eat far too much!

Keep a food diary! How much are you really eating and what are you eating? With portion sizes bigger and junk food available 24/7 we are consuming more than ever. We also have a lot more intolerances nowadays to certain foods and this can cause numerous problems such as bloating, fatigue etc. Once you write them down you can see where you are going wrong, you never know you might not be eating enough!

Exercise! Get outside or to the gym and do some HIIT (High intensity training) plus resistance training at least 4 times a week to burn fat! A great way is to combine them both together with a HIIT weights circuit. This is what I do regularly to keep me nice and trim and also keeps me mentally focused on a healthy lifestyle.
